IUPsyS, International Union of Psychological Science

IUPsyS is an ICSU member since 1982.

The International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS) was founded in 1951 at the 13th International Congress of Psychology, as a natural growth from the International Organizing Committees of the earliest Congresses, the First International Congress of Psychology having been held in 1889 in Paris.
The objectives of IUPsyS are: to develop the exchange of ideas and scientific information among psychologists of different countries and in particular to organize international congresses and other meetings on subjects of general or special interest in psychology; to contribute to psychological documentation in different countries by fostering international exchange of publications; to aid scholars of different countries to go abroad to universities, laboratories, libraries, and other institutions; to foster the exchange of students and young research workers; to collaborate with other international and national organizations in matters of mutual interest, and to engage in other activities that will further the development of the science of psychology.
Special IUPsyS projects relate to the development of psychology in developing countries, (e.g., Advanced Research Training Seminars and Regional Conferences), cognitive psychology in a multidisciplinary environment, data archiving, psychological dimensions of global change, psychology and health, science literacy and communication studies.
Every second month, IUPsyS publishes the International Journal of Psychology (together with the International Platform Section). It also produces the annual IUPsyS Psychology Resource File (in CD-Rom).
IUPsyS is a member of both the International Social Science Council and the International Council for Science. IUPsyS maintains close relations with the World Health Organization (WHO) and holds special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.
At present, IUPsyS has 68 National Members and 12 affiliate organizations.
