The Chilean National Member is the Chilean Academy of Sciences, acting through the Chilean Committee for ICSU. The Academy has 36 members and is a self-governing body composed of scientists of the highest standing in the country. The Chilean Academy of Sciences was founded in 1964. The Chilean ICSU Committee is chaired by a member of the Academy and is composed of the Presidents of Chilean scientific societies and committees affiliated to ICSU. At present the Chilean ICSU Committee has 29 members.
