Founding General Assembly of the International Science Council

July 2018 will see the launch of the International Science Council, resulting from the merger of the International Council for Science (ICSU) with the International Social Science Council (ISSC).

At the founding General Assembly of the new organization, the combined membership of the two predecessor organizations will elect their representatives on the governing structures of the new Council.

The event will be held in the “Maison des Océans” in central Paris.

Hotels
A selection of hotels, with special rates and pre-blocked for participants attending the General Assembly, will be available on the online registration.  Participants are requested to download the hotel form which they should complete and emailed or faxed directly to the hotel to secure accommodation.

Meals

Lunch & Coffee breaks: The Academy of Sciences is generously providing lunch and coffee breaks on 3, 4 and 5 July for participants.

 

Evening:

  • A cocktail reception by the Académie des sciences on 4 July under the dome of the Institut de France: to include a concert under the direction of Laurent Petitgirard and a keynote lecture by Antonio Damasio on “The biological roots of cultures: science, technology, and art”
  • A cocktail will be organised on 5 July at the Gallery of Evolution of the  Natural History Museum (Grande galérie de l’évolution du Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle).

Accompanying persons are welcome to attend the evening functions.

 

Visas

Weather in July: mostly dry, sunny and warm. The average temperature for this time of year is 20°C. Daily high temperature: 23°C to 25°C Daily low temperature: 14°C. July heatwaves are possible, with temperatures reaching 37°C.

The local currency is the Euro (1 EUR=1,24 USD)

 

Electricity

Power sockets are of type E. The standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz. Please check if you need a power plug adapter and/or a voltage converter.

 

Wireless Connection

There will be internet access in the conference centre and meeting room. Information on wireless connection in the hotels will be given at the venue.

 

Mobile Phones

Check with your phone company before leaving home about international mobile roaming facilities available in the host country.

 

Travel and Public Transportation

Participants are expected to make their own travel arrangements to Paris.

 

Airports: Paris has two main airports about 1 hour from the city and connected by a regular bus service, railway and taxis. Taxis from Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport into the centre of Paris will range from Euro 50-55, and from Orly airport from Euro 30-35.

Through the registration form you will be able to register to the different events of the GA days, request a visa invitation letter and book your accommodation in Paris. All persons wishing to participate in the General Assembly (regardless of whether they need a hotel room or not) must register online in order to be included in the List of Participants.
