World Data System (WDS)
The International Programme Office for WDS is located at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) in Tokyo, Japan.
In 2011, ICSU accepted the generous offer of the Japanese National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) to host and financially support the International Programme Office for WDS (WDS-IPO) at its Headquarters in Tokyo, Japan; it was formally inaugurated in May 2012. The Office manages and coordinates the establishment and operations of WDS, and takes responsibility for outreach and promotional activities. WDS-IPO acts under the guidance of the ICSU World Data System Scientific Committee.
The first Executive Director of the World Data System (WDS) is Dr Mustapha Mokrane, formerly Science and Information Technology Officer at ICSU’s Secretariat in Paris. He took up his appointment in Tokyo in early March 2012.
