Ocean Research (SCOR)

Created: 1957

President/Chairman : Prof. Peter Burkill SCOR logo

The Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) was established by the Executive Board of ICSU, meeting in Brussels in July 1957, to further international scientific activity in all branches of oceanic research. To do so, SCOR examines problems and identifies elements that would benefit from enhanced international action, including improvement of scientific methods, design of critical experiments and measurement programmes, and relevant aspects of science policy; fosters recognition of individual marine scientists and laboratories; presents the views of marine scientists to the appropriate international community; and co-operates with national and international organizations concerned with scientific aspects of ocean research and inter-related activities.
