Availablity of Scientific Publications (INASP)

Created: 1992

Chair: John V. WoodINASP logo

INASP was created in 1992 in cooperation with UNESCO, TWAS and AAAS. It was established as an ICSU Interdisciplinary Body by the Executive Board in 2003 subject to ratification by the General Assembly in 2005. It is a cooperative network of partners whose aim is to enhance worldwide access to scientific information and knowledge, and to improve its flow within and between countries, especially those with less developed systems of publication and dissemination.

The objectives of INASP are:

  • to improve access to scientific and scholarly information
  • to catalyse and support local publication and information exchange
  • to strengthen local capacities to manage and use information and knowledge
  • to foster in-country, regional and international cooperation and networking
  • to advise local organisations and funding agencies on ways to utilise information and publishing to achieve development goals
