Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change (IHDP)
Created: 1996
President/Chair: Sir Partha Dasgupta
The International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP) was established in 1996 by its two scientific sponsors, the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC). IHDP is an international, non-governmental, interdisciplinary research programme addressing the coupled human-natural system in the context of global environmental change (GEC). It fosters high quality research aimed at describing, analysing and understanding the human dimensions of GEC. Human dimensions are the ways in which individuals and societies:
- contribute to global environmental change;
- are influenced by global environmental change; and
- mitigate and adapt to global environmental change.
