Background
The policy briefs provide the latest scientific thinking on sustainable development issues for policy-makers involved in the Rio+20 dialogue, and were presented at the international conference, Planet Under Pressure: new knowledge towards solutions.
Each brief tackles an issue of importance to the Rio+20 conference, and "Interconnected risks and solutions for a planet under pressure" provides an overview of the key issues.
- Water security
- Food security
- Biodiversity and ecosystems
- Transforming governance and institutions
- Interconnected risks and challenges
The policy briefs were developed by IGBP, IHDP, DIVERSITAS, WCRP, ESSP and ICSU.
We thank the US National Science Foundation (NSF) Grant no. GEO-0837928, amendment no. 6, for support for this project.
Discussion will also focus on carrying forward the State of the Planet Declaration which was issued at the close of the Planet Under Pressure conference, a major scientific conference in London which was part of the formal pre-Rio+20 preparatory process.
