A new 10-year initiative: Future Earth - research for global sustainability will be launched at ICSU's Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation at Rio+20.
Future Earth is a joint initiative of ICSU, the International Social Science Council (ISSC), and the Belmont Forum (a high level group of major funders of global environmental change research), with UNEP, UNU and UNESCO, and WMO as an observer.
It aims to deliver knowledge to enable societies to meet their sustainable development goals in the coming decades, and will provide an overarching interdisciplinary framework for mobilising global research efforts in the wake of Rio+20.
