The Council of Finnish Academies (established in 1976 as the Delegation of the Finnish Academies of Science and Letters) is a joint organ of The Finnish Academy of Science and Letters, the Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters, and the Finnish Academies of Technology. It consists of five representatives from both the Academy and the Society and three members nominated by the Academies of Technology. The President is elected for a two-year period and the Secretary-General for three years. The Council acts in close collaboration with ICSU and its member organizations, as well as with other international scientific institutions. It promotes interdisciplinary scientific activities and discussions on a national level. Popularization of science is implemented by arranging general symposia and by supporting a popular scientific magazine.
