The Royal Irish Academy, founded in 1785, is a society for the advancement of science and learning. Its membership includes most of the leading authorities in the various branches of science and humanities in Ireland. The Academy administers 26 National Committees and Commissions which are affiliated to international academic unions, a number of award schemes, and eight research and publication projects. The library of the Academy is best known for its unique Irish manuscripts and its collections of books of Irish interest.
