The Guatemalan Academy of Medical, Physical and Natural Sciences was established in 1945 with the purpose of dissemination of cultural studies, for the advancement of scientific research and for the incorporation of the required universal knowledge to human progress. The Academy supports and coordinates scientific research undertaken by its members, and widely diffuses information about research results. It also defends the interests of scientists in the country and cooperates with other scientific institutions on matters of common concern.
