The Ministry of Science and Innovation is responsible for planning and implementing the government’s policy on scientific research, technical development and innovation in all sectors, as well as for coordinating state-owned research institutions. In particular, the ministry is responsible for the proposal, administration, monitoring and evaluation of the national programmes and strategic actions of the National R&D Plan. The ministry also plans and coordinates international cooperation in scientific research and proposes the government’s position in international scientific and technical affairs. The ministry also coordinates Spain’s position in international fora, and, when necessary, designates or proposes Spanish representatives to relevant international bodies.
