The International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) began its official existence in 1960, under the auspices of UNESCO. Its basic aims are: to promote information science and technology; to advance international cooperation in the field of information processing; to stimulate research, development and application of information processing in science and human activity; to further the dissemination and exchange of information on information processing; to encourage education in information processing.
