ICSU and ISSC Transition Task Force meets to discuss possible structures for new merged council for all the sciences

As the two science councils continue to develop the modalities for a proposed future merger, the Transition Task Force met for two days in Paris las week to discuss proposed structures for a new, merged council.

Details of the membership of the Task Force, which was appointed in early 2017 following a decision at the extraordinary General Assembly in Oslo in October 2016, are available here.

The group is responsible for developing proposals relating to new statutes, membership dues and secretariat structure for the new organization, as well as a high level multi-year budget.

Participants discussed the kind of statutes and governance structures necessary for a new council fit for the 21st century, drawing on thinking that emerged from the Strategy Working Group workshop and meeting in the same week. The meeting also covered the legal and practical landscape for the merger. Documentation resulting from the meeting is available here.

The Task Force will meet again in early June.
