Global environmental change programmes appoint new Scientific Chairs
New Scientific Committee chairs have been appointed to two of ICSU’s global environmental change programmes—the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP) and the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP).
Professor Sir Partha Dasgupta has been appointed chair of the IHDP Scientific Committee, succeeding Professor Oran Young who served as chair of the Scientific Committee from 2006 to 2010. Professor James Syvitski has been appointed chair of the IGBP Scientific Committee and will succeed Professor Carlos Nobre on 1 January 2012.
The appointments were made by the programme sponsors—ICSU for IGBP and ICSU, ISSC and UNU for IHDP—and come at a time of rapid change within the global environmental change landscape.
