Anne receiving her honour

Anne Larigauderie, Executive Director of Diversitas, has been honoured by the French government for her work in international science. Anne was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour during a ceremony at ICSU on Friday 25 June. The honour was conferred by Julia Marton-Lefèvre, Director General of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, on behalf of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research of France.

Anne Larigauderie has a PhD in plant ecology and worked as a research scientist in France and the USA.  In 1996 she became the coordinator of the Swiss Priority Programme on biodiversity and the scientific adviser to the Swiss delegation to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity. She joined ICSU as a science officer in 1999 and was responsible for ICSU’s portfolio of environment programmes. In 2001, she was appointed Executive Director of Diversitas—an ICSU Interdisciplinary Body—and has worked tirelessly in the effort to establish an Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Service (IPBES).
