The organisation which acts as host for the International Programme Office for the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) programme – the Center for Earth Observation and Digital Earth (CEODE) in Beijing – has been merged with another institution of the Chinese Academy of Sciences – the Institute of Remote Sensing Applications (IRSA) – to form the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth.

With the acronym RADI, the new institute has as its objective the development and exploitation of leading technologies in Earth observation and the mechanisms for acquiring and distributing remote sensing information. RADI will enhance present capacity for providing resource-environment spatial information at regional and global levels by establishing a digital Earth scientific platform, and build itself into a comprehensive, world class research institute.  It is headed by the former Director-General of CEODE, Academician Huadong Guo.

The programme office of IRDR continues to enjoy the benefits of being an independent entity within an organisation that is at the forefront of environmental research.
