IPBES holds first plenary meeting in Bonn
IPBES was established in April 2012 as an independent, intergovernmental body, modelled on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), to assess the state of the planet's biodiversity and ecosystems. Zakri Abdul Hamid, science advisor to Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak, was appointed by delegates at the first chair of IPBES.
Scidev.net ran a feature on the plenary meeting based on interviews with Anne Larigauderie, Executive Director of Diversitas, an ICSU-sponsored programme on biodiversity research, and Anantha Duaiappah, Executive Director of the International Human Dimensions Programme, also an ICSU-sponsored programme.
