ICSU-UNESCO Rio+20 Regional Science and Technology Workshop for Latin America and the Caribbean
The aim of this workshop was to give natural scientists, social scientists and engineers from the LAC region the opportunity to prepare joint positions and concerted input into the Rio+20 preparatory process.

The results of the workshop were presented at the Latin America and the Caribbean Rio+20 Intergovernmental Regional Preparatory Meeting, which took place 7-9 September in Santiago, Chile.
The workshop brought together more than 60 natural scientists, social scientists and engineers representing more than 20 countries from across the Latin America and the Caribbean Region, with high level policy-makers and representatives of other stakeholder groups.
Participants addressed the main themes of Rio+20:
- green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication;
- the institutional framework for sustainable development;
- new and emerging challenges.
The workshop was organised by the ICSU and UNESCO regional offices for Latin America and the Caribbean, in cooperation with the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC).
This is one of five Rio+20 regional science and technology workshops being organised by ICSU and UNESCO.
