Meeting with UN SRSG for Disaster Risk Reduction

Manuel Limonta and Kerstin Schmidt-Verkerk were received by Margareta Wahlström and Ricardo Mena in Mexico City on 3 March, 2012.

Margareta Wahlström is the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Disaster Risk Reduction of the United Nations  and Head of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction based in Geneva, Switzerland.

Ricardo Mena is Head of the Regional Office for the Americas of the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR)  in Panama City. The meeting took place on the premises of the United Nations in Mexico City on 3 March, 2012.

A potential collaboration between UNISDR and ICSU ROLAC on the subject of disaster risk reduction was discussed. ICSU and UNISDR, together with the International Social Science Council (ISSC), co-sponsor the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR), a decade-long integrated research programme addressing the challenges brought by natural disasters to mitigate their impacts, and to improve related policy-making mechanisms.
