Meeting in the context of the “Capacity and Networking Project” (CANP) for Central America and the Caribbean

On 19 March, 2012 José Antonio de la Peña, Manuel Limonta and Kerstin Schmidt-Verkerk held a meeting with Ángel Ruiz, President of the Inter-American Committee of Mathematics Education and Eduardo Mancera, Director Campus de las Matemáticas México in Mexico City.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss a collaboration in the context of the ICSU ROLAC Scientific Priority Area Mathematics Education
In particular, the “Capacity and Networking Project” (CANP) was discussed. CANP Central America and the Caribbean is an international scientific development initiative of the International Mathematical Union (IMU), carried out jointly with its sub commission ICMI and supported by UNESCO, ICSU ROLAC, the Interamerican Committee on Mathematics Education, the Ministry of Education of Costa Rica as well as regional universities. IMU, supported by ICSU ROLAC, had been awarded an ICSU grant for CANP Central America and the Caribbean in 2012.
The Project will have at its center a two week program held in Costa Rica from August 6-17, 2012, consisting of a workshop for forty participants from Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic. Satellite activities targeting a wider audience will also be organized. A post-workshop in 2013 will ensure continuity and evaluation.
