— tags:
The Report highlights the activities and achievements of the Regional Office in 2011.

It includes the inauguration of the new offices on the premises of the Mexican Academy of Sciences after the relocation from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 1 March, 2011. During its 9th Meeting in March, 2011 in Mexico, the Regional Committee had defined two strategic priorities.

The first strategic priority for the Regional Office was the planning of implementation activities for the Science Plans of ICSU ROLAC´s four scientific priority areas biodiversity, natural hazards, sustainable energy and mathematics education. A major achievement related to the scientific priority area sustainable energy was the submission of the final report of the project “Sustainable Energy Systems for Universal Energy Access and to Mitigate Global Climate Change: Design of a Regional Program for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RE & EE) Research and Innovation Networks in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC)” to the Inter-American Development Bank (IABD).

The second strategic priority in 2011 was the organization of the ICSU-UNESCO Rio+20 Regional Science and Technology Workshop for LAC in Mexico City in August, 2011.

Furthermore, the Regional Office continued to strenghten relations with organisations in the region as well as within the ICSU family by attending various meetings and conferences, including the 30th ICSU General Assembly in September, 2011.
