Elena Vigil



Professor Elena Vigil from Cuba is Full Professor of the Physics Faculty, Havana University; where she has taught Solid State Physics for over 25 years. She is a research group leader at the Institute of Materials Science and Technology, also at Havana University. She holds a PhD in Physics from this University and B.Sc. plus MA degree in Physics Teaching from Farleigh Dickinson University, New Jersey. She is President of the Solar Energy Cathedra (UH) and board member of NGO Cubasolar. Her present research activity is devoted to solar energy, in particular, new solar cells materials and structures. In the last ten years her papers in the web of science have been cited more than 200 times.  She is a "distinguished member" of the Cuban Academy of Science and of the Cuban Physics Society. She has received several national distinctions and awards.She was one of the funding members of ICSU Regional Committee for Latin American and the Caribbean and was reelected for a second three-year term in 2010
