Manuel Limonta

Professor Manuel Limonta, PhD is Director of ICSU ROLAC since January 2011 and full Researcher-Professor at Havana Medical University.
In 1968 Manuel Limonta graduated as Medical Doctor, in 1979 he received his 1st degree as specialist and in 1981 his 2nd degree at the Institute of Hematology and Immunology of Havana, Cuba.
Manuel Limonta was the founding director of the Cuban Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) and of two Biotechnology Centers in Cuban provinces. He led the research team, which for the first time produced Interferon in Cuba in the 1980s.
His honours include: Dr. Honoris Causa - Universidad Central Ecuador (2002); Dr. Honoris Causa - Autonomous Metropolitan University of Mexico City (2012); Medal Comendador - Merito Cientifico Brazil; 3 national medals - recognition from National Sciences Trade Union of Cuba; and member of the editorial boards of 5 scientific journals including Biotecnología Aplicada, Cuba. He is member of 12 national and international scientific and medical associations and other academies, including the Cuban Academy of Sciences (ACC), the Caribbean Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS).
