Jose Luis Moran Lopez

José Luis Morán-López from México is the Liaison between the Mexican Academy of Sciences and ICSU ROLAC. He is Professor of Physics at the Faculty of Sciences, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He got his PhD degree in Theoretical Physics from the Free University Berlin in 1977. From 1977 to 1979, he held a postdoctoral position at the University of California in Berkeley. Professor Morán-López was President of the Mexican Physical Society (1994-1996). He acted as Vice-president of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics from 1999-2002. He was the Founding General Director of the Institute for Scientific and Technological Research in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, 2000-2005. He was the Academic Coordinator of the National Supercomputing Center (IPICYT - 2006-2008). The main research area of Professor Morán-López is the study of the physico-chemical properties of confined and low-dimensional systems. He was awarded the National Prize in Science and Arts by the Mexican Government in 1996, and the TWAS Medal Lecture in 2004.
