Former ICSU President, Jim Dooge, passes away
Professor Jim Dooge, ICSU President 1996-1999, passed away peacefully on 20 August. His contribution as a scientist, and as a politician in Ireland was immense but he will particularly be remembered at ICSU as a most generous friend. Invitation to host the international office for the ICSU World Data System
ICSU is now inviting tenders to host the ICSU World Data System (WDS) International Programme Office (IPO). The office will manage and coordinate the establishment and operations of the WDS, and take responsibility for outreach and promotional activities. CODATA International Conference, South Africa, 24-27 October

Diversitas director honoured by France
Anne Larigauderie, Executive Director of Diversitas, has been honoured by the French government for her work in international science. Anne was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour during a ceremony at ICSU on Friday 25 June. The honour was conferred by Julia Marton-Lefèvre, Director General of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, on behalf of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research of France...
