Meeting with Executive Secretary of CBD

On 15 April, 2012 Mahabir Gupta and Arturo J. Martínez, members of the ICSU Regional Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean, and Kerstin Schmidt-Verkerk met Braulio Dias, Executive Secretary of the CBD, in Panama City.

 

The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)  entered into force on 29 December 1993 and has 3 main objectives:

  • The conservation of biological diversity
  • The sustainable use of the components of biological diversity
  • The fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the utilization of genetic resources.

The objective of the meeting was to discuss synergies between the CBD and ICSU ROLAC´s priority area biodiversity.
