TWAS meeting in Italy

From 20-24 November 2011, Manuel Limonta participated at the Meeting of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, TWAS in Trieste, Italy

The academy of sciences for the developing world, TWAS, is an autonomous international organization. founded in 1983 by scientists from south Italy  under the leadership of the late Nobel laureate Abdus Salam. It was officially launched by the secretary-general of the United Nations in 1985.

The mail objetvives of  TWAS are:

Recognize, support and promote excellence in scientific research in the developing world, respond to the needs of young scientists in developing countries, and encourage scientific research and sharing of experiences in solving major problems facing developing countries.

Every three years, in conjunction with an annual General Meeting of its Members, the Academy convenes a General Conference in a developing country to review the status and future prospects of science and technology in various regions of the South. TWAS members, ministers of science and technology, presidents of science academies and research councils as well as representatives of international organizations from the South and the North areNinvited to attend these events.

Meetings and conferences of the Council provide an ideal forum to articulate purposes  and goals by showcasing the progress that has been made in building scientific capacity and discussing strategies for meeting the challenges that lie ahead.

Manuel Limonta participated in 31st Meeting of the TWAS Council.
