The Professor Lilliam Álvarez has a PhD in Physics-Mathematics since 1989 from the Computer Center of the ex-URSS Academy of Sciences, Moscow. She is a Merit Member of the Cuban Academy of Sciences,Member of the Caribbean Academy of Sciences, member in the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) (1996-2001), also of the Caribbean Sciences Academy, of the Mathematics and Computer Cuban Society and President in the Women Scientific Commission of the ACC and of the Cuban chapter in the TWOWS; she is President of the Cuban Chapter of OWSDW and National commission for women in the Academies. The Professor established the Sofia Kovalievskaia award for Young women in Basic Sciences, and she also organized the VII Iberoamerican Conference of S&T and Gender. She won the National Medal “Carlos J. Finlay”. Now she is the ACC secretary and the head of the Group of Promotion of Sciences in the Cuban Academy of Sciences.
