Organized by the Italian representatives of three International Scientific Unions operative in the fields of chemistry and biology (IUPAC - IUBMB - IUCr).
The meeting will cover diverse areas and address topics of broad interest such as the mechanisms underlying biological processes and the requirements of an environmentally sustainable development, and will take advantage of the engagement of the ICSU delegates in different areas of research.
All the sevens speakers are renowned international authorities in their fields: Reiko Kuroda (Japan), Sine Larsen (Denmark), Yan Tseh Lee (Taiwan), Andrea Mattevi (Italy), Venkatraman Ramakhrishnan (UK), Kazuyuki Tatsumi (Japan) and Kurt Wüttrich (Switzerland). Amongst them, there are three Nobel Laureates and the Presidents of the IUCr and IUPAC.
The congress venue is located just in the heart of historic Florence and close to the most famous churches and museums of Florence. ICSU delegates will have no difficulty in moving forth and back from Rome to Florence in a single day given the short train-ride (one and a half hour). Otherwise, the delegates may decide to remain in Florence over the weekend to enjoy the city’s most renowned pieces of art.
