35 African early career scientists will attend training workshop on trans-disciplinary research on 3-7 October 2016 in Nairobi, Kenya
Sep 30, 2016 Following the ICSU-NASAC-ISSC call for pre-proposals on the understanding the “Energy-Health-Natural Disasters” nexus in African cities, which was launched earlier this year, ICSU received 165 applications from diverse research teams in Africa. Following the scientific review, 35 pre-proposals have been identified and will be considered for the second phase of the selection process.

The event, held in the auditorium of the Musée du Louvre in Paris, was attended by French President Francois Hollande and representatives of scientific academies from around the world. Many members of the ICSU community were present, and Council President Gordon McBean delivered an address and signed a statement on the organization's behalf. The Académie is one of the oldest members of ICSU, was a driving force in its creation, and has always had strong links with the Council.

Gaffield, a member of ICSU's Committee on Scientific Planning and Review (CSPR), will assume his role at the next Annual General Meeting of the RSC.
