The State Academy of Sciences was combined with the State Commission for Science and Technology into one organization by restructuring a new Cabinet on 5 September 1999. It was renamed the Academy of Sciences. Now the Academy of Sciences has full responsibility for both fields of science and technology which the two former organizations had taken over, and has as its function to organize and direct all the works of science and technology in the country.
