The 22nd meeting of ICSU Regional Committee for Asia and the Pacific (RCAP) was held in Kinabalu Park on 21 and 22 November 2016.The Park, a World Heritage Site that includes Mount Kinabalu which at 4,096 metres, is the fifth highest peak in Southeast Asia. A key development endorsed by the meeting is the establishment of the ICSU Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) Research Support Programme which will be funded by ROAP from funds it has accumulated since its establishment in 2006. The Programme aims to provide seed funding for research by early career scientists in work on the priority areas identified by ROAP. Four RCAP members, Soottiporn Chittmittrapap, Javed Iqbal, Toshio Yamagata and JianXin Zhang will be rotating off RCAP, after serving two 3-year terms of service. Also stepping down at the end of the year is Mohd Nordin Hasan the founding Director of ICSU  ROAP, who has served the Office since 2006.
