Dr. Lee is Principal Researcher of the Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI) and works in the field of microbial diversity and marine biotechnology. She is a member of the European Society of Marine Biotechnology, the Society for General Microbiology (UK), the Korean Society of Microbiology, and the Korean Society of Biotechnology and Bioengineering. Since 2008, she has been a trustee of the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies and is currently Vice-President of the Women Bioscience Forum in Korea. As Head of National Research Laboratory for Marine Microbial Diversity, she has worked on marine biofilm and biological control of harmful algal blooms. She has also published over 80 scientific papers in international journals. Since May 2007 she has served as Director-General of KOPRI and is active in international cooperation in polar science, especially environmental changes in polar regions. Moreover, as a national delegate for polar logistics and operation she has responsibility for enhancing national and international polar research activities.
