The ICSU Regional Office for Africa welcomes you to the new, integrated website. It is indeed a giant leap, but also liberating in a sense that (i) it reflects ICSU with decentralisation to regions to ensure more appropriate application of science closer to societal level (ii) it puts the ownership of and responsibility for content in the hands of the generators of that content. The website is currently a work in progress, but please watch this space as it develops into a comprehensive informative tool for the ICSU family and its stakeholders.

African Science Plans Steering Committee (ASPSC) Meeting Pretoria, South Africa 24 – 25 March 2014
Apr 04, 2014 A meeting of the African Science Plans Steering Committee (ASPSC) of the International Council for Science, Regional Office for Africa (ICSU ROA) took place in Pretoria, South Africa from 24 to 25 March, 2014. The meeting brought together eight of the twelve leading, competent and active African scientists selected based on their expertise in the four thematic areas of the Science Plans and three staff of ICSU ROA, to discuss and adopt the draft Terms of Reference (ToR) detailing the roles and responsibilities of members of the ASPSC as well as map out the implementation strategy for the Science Plans.
The 4th Capacity and Network Project Mar 18, 2014
ICSU ROA endorsed the 4th Capacity and Network Project (CANP4), which will be held on 1 -14 September, 2014, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Upon receiving invitation from the International Mathematical Union, ICSU ROA accepted participate during the CANP4 where it will present the Regional Offices activities in the field of mathematics, science, engineering and technology as well as possible avenues of research collaboration within and outside the continent.
Global Environmental Change Symposium Mar 18, 2014
The Global Environmental Change Symposium will be held at the University of Mauritius on the 8th of April 2014, in partnership with the African Institute of South Africa (AISA). Three books co-published between the three partners will be launched. Some of the Scientists who have tirelessly dedicated their time and energy to produce these books will attend the symposium, to share first-hand information on the content of the books they have worked on.
Meeting between Development Aid and Global Environmental Change Communities Mar 18, 2014
The International Council for Science (ICSU) and the Swedish International Development Corporation Agency (Sida) will be organizing a meeting aimed at understanding developmental challenges in Africa, to discuss how to build on existing experiences in addressing them and to explore how integrated trans-disciplinary research on global sustainability could help accelerate transformation towards sustainability in the region. This meeting will be held at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa from the 5th to the 6th of May 2014.

UNESCO Nairobi Office and ICSU ROA jointly organised a workshop on Environmental and Health Impacts of Mining activities in Sub-Saharan African Countries with focus on abandoned mines at the Garden Court Hotel, O.R Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, South Africa, 2-3 May 2013.
