ICSU in partnership with co-sponsors has reviewed ESSP, IGBP, WCRP, IHDP and SCOPE in 2006-09. DIVERSITAS will be reviewed in 2010-11. The goal is to determine the value added of the programmes and provide recommendations on their future. More information on the following reviews is available:
Review of the Earth System Science Partnership (ESSP) The Earth System Science Partnership (ESSP) was reviewed by ICSU and the International Group of Funding Agencies for Global Change Research (IGFA) in 2007. The goal of the review was to determine the added value of the ESSP. Louise Fresco, Chair of the Review Panel, presented the final report to the ICSU Committee on Scientific Planning and Review (CSPR) in April 2008.
Review of the Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment (SCOPE) The Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment (SCOPE) was reviewed in 2007. The goal was to provide recommendations on the future of SCOPE in light of the rapid changes taking place in the scientific assessment landscape. Geoffrey Oldham presented the final report to the ICSU Committee on Scientific Planning and Review (CSPR) in April 2008.
Reviews of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) and the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) In 2007–09, the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) and the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) were reviewed in parallel by ICSU, the International Group of Funding Agencies for Global Change Research (IGFA), and, in the case of WCRP, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC). The goal of the reviews was to evaluate the extent to which the international programmes add value to their respective areas of research and to the national programmes that contribute to them. Review Panel Chairs D. James Baker (WCRP review) and John Lawton (IGBP review) presented the final reports to the ICSU Committee on Scientific Planning and Review (CSPR) in February 2009.
