ICSU will review its four global environmental change programmes – ESSP, IGBP, WCRP and DIVERSITAS – and SCOPE in 2007–09. The goal is to provide recommendations on the future of the programmes and help guide scientific research. More information on the following reviews is available:
Review of the Earth System Science Partnership (ESSP) The Earth System Science Partnership (ESSP) will be under review by ICSU
and the International Group of Funding Agencies for Global Change Research
(IGFA) in 2007. The goal of the review is to determine the added value
of the ESSP and the final report is slated for submission to CSPR in early
2008. General comments and opinions about the ESSP are welcome and can
be sent to essp.review
Review of the Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment (SCOPE) The Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment (SCOPE) will be under review in late 2007. The goal is to provide recommendations on the future of SCOPE in light of the rapid changes taking place in the scientific assessment landscape. The review will begin with a meeting in November 2007 and the final report will be submitted to the ICSU Committee on Scientific Planning and Review (CSPR) in April 2008.
Reviews of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) and the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) In 2007–09, the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) and the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) will be under review by ICSU, the International Group of Funding Agencies for Global Change Research (IGFA), and, in the case of WCRP, the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC). The goal of the reviews is to evaluate the extent to which the international programmes add value to their respective areas of research and to the national programmes that contribute to them.
